The Maison Forte de Reignac is a mix between a castle and a troglodyte fortress. It is a noble den, which was built over time and has bravely weathered the vicissitudes of History in our region. It is a rare example of troglodyte architecture mixed with medieval building codes. It is a mineral setting of great beauty.

2 A trip down memory lane

La Maison Forte de Reignac was the subject of excavations, remains and artifacts from the Upper Magdalenian period were found there (cut flints, bones, decorated assegais, etc.), examples can be seen in the room exhibition on the ground floor, after the kitchen. We then go upstairs to reach rooms describing the uses and customs of the inhabitants of the Middle Ages: weapons room, Countess’s bedroom… The soul of the Lords of Reignac is still very present in the site. Children like to soak up the atmosphere of the place through the objects and displays.

What a view! From the aerial terraces of the Maison Forte de Reignac, you can enjoy a magnificent view of the surrounding area. The Vézère Valley has incredible charm. For the prettiest photos, we recommend that you come at the end of the day to enjoy the magnificent sunsets in Reignac. The terraces were also strategic points for lookouts who monitored the valley, thanks to an ingenious relay system.
